I don't understand why people who can't take care of themselves decide to have kids. And I don't understand why some people do have kids and then don't invest in them. You need to give yourself to your kids. Spend time with them. Talk to them. Cook for them. Read to them. For heaven's sake, at least keep them bathed and in clean clothes. If you don't have the time or the money to raise your children, why are you having them? There is nothing wrong with waiting to be ready to have children. Why is that so difficult to recognize?
And I really don't understand some Mormons. I don't understand why they don't show up on time for home teaching visits, especially when they schedule it before dinnertime. And I don't understand why so many count on the church to teach their children what acceptable behavior is. Parents, you have an entire future to shape, for better or for worse. Please put a little effort into making it the former.

I whole-heartedly agree that parents need to shoulder the burdens of caring for and teaching their children. Haven't they read the Proclamation?
Thanks for that! I was actually thinking about it since I saw it a few hours ago. It made me think... do some mothers just become desensitized to the sacredness and responsibility of being a mother and bringing children into the world? Geez, I hope that's not ever me.
In my ward, I'd be inclined to help that mother out, but how does one approach them to say, "Hey, can I come pick up your dirty laundry for you?" Or, "Can I watch your kids for you while you nap/clean/make dinner?"
Anyway, bathtime and family prayer tonight felt extra special and extra purposeful.
I don't know the specifics of the kids or parents you saw today, but I can tell you that I have always found Mormon kids to be the brattiest, smelliest kids around.
Have I mentioned that not one, not two, but three of my students are pregnant at the moment?
Granted, I doubt that any of them have read the Proclamation to the Family but it is disturbing nonetheless.
